Canterbury Cathedral chooses iplicit’s award-winning cloud accounting system

Canterbury Cathedral, the mother church of the worldwide Anglican communion, has chosen to run its finances with iplicit’s award-winning accounting system.

The Cathedral, which is the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, settled on the cloud accounting provider after a thorough selection process.

Canterbury Cathedral is one of England’s most important Christian sites. Founded by St Augustine in 597AD, it is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is iconic for millions of Anglicans in 165 countries.

Its team was impressed by iplicit’s ability to streamline the complex work of charity finance departments – including tracking restricted and unrestricted funds, calculating partial VAT, and analysing what individual projects cost and earn.

The Cathedral will integrate iplicit with its booking system and will use it to consolidate accounts across three legal entities.

Matt Lewns, Accountant Partner Lead at iplicit, said: “We look forward to working closely with Canterbury Cathedral and helping it overcome many of the challenges nonprofit finance teams face today.

“The iconic cathedral needed to move on from its previous on-premises finance software in favour of a powerful true-cloud accounting system. We listened to the team’s unique requirements and explored how we could help with tasks like SORP reporting, partial VAT and multi-entity accounting.

“We also looked at how iplicit could offer enhanced security and integrate with the Cathedral’s existing system for booking individual and group tours.

Julie Wood, Canterbury Cathedral’s Finance Director, said: “We invested a lot of time and effort in the selection process of our new, cloud-based accounting system, as we need to get this strategic move right.

“We had our own list of system requirements, which iplicit was able to satisfy. But what really set iplicit apart was its approach and its people. We appreciated the company’s transparency about its product and the implementation process – and the team’s genuine interest in understanding our organisation and tailoring the platform to address our unique requirements.”

How it all works

iplicit’s architecture is quite special; it’s true cloud and only in the browser, but it looks and feels like a desktop application. No layer upon layer of tabs opening and probably the most intuitive navigation that you will find in the marketplace today. Take a look for yourself.
